Service Engine Soon Warning Light
The “Service Engine Soon” light on a BMW vehicle indicates a problem with the vehicle’s engine or emissions control system. It can also be an indication of a transmission problem as well especially if the vehicle goes into failsafe (limp) mode. A BMW with a service engine soon light on should be diagnosed as soon as possible to avoid causing further damage to other components. The issue could be something as simple as a loose gas cap or something more complex like a faulty sensor, but it’s important to have it addressed to ensure the proper functioning of the engine and to prevent further damage. Preventative Maintenance
Preventative Maintenance: Every 5,000 & 10,000 Mile Intervals
Ethan's Automotive can perform the following routine preventative maintenance:
@Two to three times a year, or every 5,000 miles,
- Brake fluid check
- Brake inspection, front and rear
- Cabin air filter inspection
- Coolant check
- Engine inspection
- Engine oil check
- Tire rotation, if necessary
- Vehicle inspection
- Wiper blade inspection
@ Every 10,000 miles, or yearly: replace engine oil, oil filter, and coolant.
Brake System Diagnosis and Repair
The 3 brake system warning lights common on most BMW’s are the anti-lock braking system (ABS) light, the dynamic stability control (DSC) light, and the brake warning light. The illumination of these warning lights on the dashboard indicates a brake system failure. In some cases, this failure can be resolved with a simple fix, such as releasing your parking brake. But for obvious reasons, a malfunctioning brake system is dangerous, and you should take your vehicle to a qualified service professional.
